Overview: What is simple to us, is monstrous to them. Autistic children remain alienated by the hostile design of the subway system; a demographic that loves the MTA most of all. ComMUTE is a way to make traveling the subway easier for children and families with ASD. Accessible design is human design and together we can make the subway a safer place for everyone.

Posters

Featuring children’s drawings and thoughts, exemplifying the stress of subway travel.

Subway wrap illustrates the stress children feel, and gives commuters the opportunity to learn more about the outreach and how they can help.

42nd Street Take Over

Quiet Car

MTA will create a fleet of low-sensory Quiet Cars. These will be attendant enforced during commuting hours 9-6, and feature child-friendly graphics, diminished lighting, soundproofing, and comfortable seating.

ComMUTE Mobile App Game

Posters in the car link to a fun low-sensory app. This app can be played by children while commuting to keep them distracted and less focused on the chaos of the subway.
